Iron Man

I freaking loved the movie. If you haven't seen it, go see it and make sure you stay after the credits. If you saw it already and for some crazy reason aren't going to see it again you can watch the scene here. I haven't geeked out so hard watching a movie in a long time. Props to Favreau, Robert Downey Jr., and the rest of the cast for the amazing work and the 100 million dollar opening.

Robert Downey Jr. was incredible as Tony Stark. I can't imagine anyone else in the role. I don't think I would have liked the movie nearly as much if Tom Cruise had been cast as originally planned. Terrence Howard did a great job as well and as teased in the movie, we'll be seeing more of him in the next one. Jeff Bridges was great as always, despite the fact that it's always hard for me not to see him as "The Dude." I'm not a huge Gwyneth Paltrow fan but I thought she did a fine job as Pepper Potts. Add to that one of my favorite Stan Lee cameos and a Peter Billingsley (Christmas Story) cameo along with lots of nods to the comic and you have a great start to the summer movie season. The new Dark Knight and Indiana Jones trailers almost made me forget what movie I was about to see. It has begun....

Thanks for that link to the after credits scene! I heard about it but totally forgot to stay at the end of the movie. Ric and I loved it.

I think the real trick to appreciating Jeff Bridges is to see him as The Dude later -- after you've already seen him play less Cohen rolls. Not that I don't love The Big Lebowski, oh how I do, but I think had that been my first JB film I'd see him differently. For me, his role in The Big Lebowski took some getting used to, as I'd previously seen him in Tucker: The Man and His Dream, Arlington Rd, White Squall -- all of which are absolutely brilliant films . . . far, far removed from TBL.

That said, I'm a sucker for these comic based films, despite having read very few of the comics. (I think of myself as a comic geek, comic fan in much the way too many Christians fancy themselves followers of the Bible: I love the stuff, but have only read a few dozen pages in my life time.) Hell, I even liked the little-loved Dare Devil.

This film is definitely on my to-rent list. (I haven't seen a movie in theatres since "The Secret Window" -- I blame my now-toddler.)

Because I have no self control, I have to remind you: "No, Donny, these men are nihilists, there's nothing to be afraid of."

Dang Allen, you need to get a babysitter or something :) I love Jeff Bridges in many of his non Big Lebowski roles. Arlington Road, The Last Picture Show, The Fisher King, Tron, and Fearless are my faves. I guess it's just that I've seen Big Lebowski so many times that The Dude is ingrained in my head.

Yes, a baby sitter . . . there's an idea! In the time we've had him, we've hired a baby sitter maybe three times . . . and each time ultimately decided that with only a few hours of precious freedom, we'd spending it doing something other than staring at a screen. Which usually translated in eating and chit-chatting. There's always pay-per-view.

I love The Dude! But for some strange reasons, Jeff Bridges is Jeff Bridges and The Dude is The Dude, not Jeff Bridges.

He was the scientist who told Obadiah "I'm not Iron Man"
